Which option is right for me?
All participants may attend any classes regardless of the chosen option. The focus of both the Oxford Course and Oxford Plus is on participation, group playing and individual lessons. Oxford Plus includes a performance in a masterclass and a concert. The Advanced Class is more suitable for postgraduates, professional players or students already at conservatoires or music colleges. Look at the comparison table and if in doubt please ring to discuss the most suitable option for you.
What time does the course start and finish?
Registration is at 11.00 am on Sunday 15th August. The course ends after the final concert on Friday 20th August at about 10.00pm.
What is a typical day's activity during the course?
Each day begins with a pre-breakfast warm-up followed by, typically, a technique class, a masterclass, flute choir, coached ensemble, another class, private lessons and an evening concert. The timetable is very full, with activities from 8.00am to 10.00pm daily for the full 6 days.
Can I choose my teacher for my individual lessons?
We try to accommodate requests, but it is not always possible to guarantee lessons with a particular teacher. Michael Cox and Peter Lloyd do not give individual lessons. Their teaching is entirely through masterclasses.
Can I come for just a day or two?
It is possible to attend for part of the week, except for the Advanced Class which requires full attendance. Please enquire about prices.
What do I need to bring?
You will need to bring a music stand and your prepared pieces together with their piano accompaniments. We have a few music stands for use by students travelling from abroad.
Do I need to bring towels and bed linen?
No, they are provided.
I am travelling from a distance, can I stay overnight before or after the course?
Extra nights for bed and breakfast may be booked in advance at a cost of £40.
Can I bring my partner to stay in the college?
Yes, but please note that all accommodation is in single rooms.
